What is Weathering and Erosion?
Weathering and erosion sound like very similar things, but are different.
Weathering
Weathering is one of the destructive forces that break down earth's surface. There are two types of weathering that involve with the chemical makeup of the rock. These two include,
-Chemical Weathering
-Physical Weathering
Chemical weathering changes the chemical makeup of a rock. The ways chemical weathering can do this is,
-Oxidation Oxidation is formed when oxygen meets with some metals like iron and changes the chemical makeup. Water can speed up the process.
-Acid Rain Acid rainforms when nitrogen oxide and sulfur dioxide from factories go into the air and interfere with the water cycle. when the condensed water precipitates, it releases acid rain.

Erosion
Erosion is one of the destructive forces that break down earth's surface. Erosion carries away eroded particles, or sediments. Erosion is not the same as weathering even though many think so. While weathering breaks down rocks, erosion carries it away. Some ways erosion can happen is,
-Running water
-Wind
-Gravity
-Glaciers
-Ocean currents

Terms
Weathering- Is the breaking down of rocks into smaller pieces.
Chemical Weathering- is the process of breaking down rocks through chemical changes.
Physical Weathering- is the process of breaking down rocks through physical changes.
Oxidation- occurs when oxygen reacts with some materials (iron) causing the material to corrode.
Acid Rain- or rust occur when pollution like sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxide enter into the water cycle making water acidic.
Erosion- the process which moves sediment on earth's surface and carries it away.
Sediment- bits of rock made by a destructive force.
